“I am Kamala Harris. As soon as I could stand, I began standing up for justice. When I was a toddler, my parents took me to Civil Rights marches, in California, where I was born. People sang joyful songs of freedom. They painted colorful signs, saying “Love your Neighbor,” “Freedom,” and “Equal Justice Under the Law.” People of every color and background were kind to each other, working together make the American Dream come true for everybody. It was like a rainbow parade for fairness. I loved it.

Once, I slipped out of my stroller at a march. My mother hugged me to comfort my fussing. “What do you want, baby?” She asked. “Fweedom!” I answered, just like the other civil rights marchers. The family laughed. But I meant it.”

IT’S TIME TO ELECT POLK COUNTY PRECINCT COMMITTEE PEOPLE!
 

The Polk County Democratic Executive Committee (DEC)
WANTS YOU TO LEAD YOUR PRECINCT! 

Every Presidential election year, the DEC organizes with newly elected Precinct Committee People (PCPs). On November 30, all PCPs’ terms in office expire. On December 1, the DEC organizes with new and returning* PCPs.  

Why would YOU want to be a PCP?  

The role of a PCP is crucial! PCPs make up the Polk County DEC.  From these elected members come the Elected Officers, the State Committee Members, the Committee Chairs, and the rest of the dedicated volunteers who make up the governing body of the Democratic Party in Polk County. Your contribution as a PCP is what keeps our party strong and vibrant. 

What does the DEC do?  

Our ultimate goal is to get Democrats elected to public office, and we have a blast doing it!  We are also active outside of the election cycle, engaging in a variety of fun and rewarding activities:  

  • We research candidates in non-partisan elections to determine if and who we should support.  
  • Through the Florida Democratic Party, we follow the legislative sessions in Tallahassee to support bills that help Florida residents and campaign against those that do not.  
  • We make use of social media for local, state, and national issues.  
  • We provide speakers to groups who want to learn more about our causes.  
  • We partner with other groups with similar goals, thereby magnifying everyone’s effect.  
  • We write and distribute a weekly newsletter, write letters to editors, and issue press releases.  
  • We attend local government meetings and speak out about current issues.  
  • And to support all this, we fundraise!

 How can YOU become a PCP? 

The process is fairly straightforward. There are a few forms to complete, some of which must be notarized. These forms are turned in to the DEC Credentials Committee, which validates them and submits the required forms to the Polk County Supervisor of Elections (SOE). 

*Returning PCPs must also complete forms to be qualified for another term.

All forms must be submitted to the SOE during the Qualifying Period, June 10 – June 14, 2024.

Qualified candidates appear on the August 20, 2024, Primary Ballot (if the position is contested).  Winners are announced, and the newly elected PCPs take office on December 1, 2024.
