HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!

FL Democrats Respond to Protests

Dear Democrats,

This week we witnessed Americans across the nation rising up to demand change, and Donald Trump authorizing the use of teargas on peaceful protesters outside the White House because he wanted to show off his power. These people were not being destructive or violent, just raising their voices against racism in our nation’s capital. This is the United States of America and we have the right to peacefully protest, whether that’s in Washington D.C. or Miami. A president who encourages violence against peaceful protesters is a threat against our democracy. Donald Trump is acting like a dictator, not a president — and we must show him who truly has the power by turning out to vote November 3rd and bringing change up and down the ballot.

Thanks to the hard work put in over the past 18 months by everyone across the state, we are better prepared, better staffed, better funded and more united than we have ever been heading into a Presidential election. Because of voter registration efforts started last June, we have out-registered Republicans — and for the first time since 2012, the Party is entering an election year with a greater Democratic margin than the previous cycle. We also now have over 20,000 trained volunteers registered in VAN, compared with approximately 2,000 in 2016 – nearly ten times as many! And for the first time ever are now ahead in Vote By Mail enrollments (by over 112,000 requests as of the March Presidential Preference Primary) and pulling away as Donald Trump’s lies about vote by mail seem to be depressing Republican enrollments!

We also are proud to have built the largest state Party in the country, with 200-plus staff working across Florida as the “campaign in waiting” for Joe Biden. And for the first time in decades, there will be a Democrat on the ballot for every single Legislative race — all 120 State House seats and all 20 State Senate seats in Florida! Thank you for the great work by so many of you across the state, especially Dr. Janelle Christensen and the Democratic Environmental Caucus of Florida, and to all the wonderful candidates who have stepped up to run to represent our Democratic values and give voters a choice in every district in the state.

But the battle is far from over. We need all of your help to get across the finish line. To truly bring about change we must continue to enroll every Democratic-leaning voter to Vote By Mail as insurance, continue to reach out to educate voters, and then work like never before to make sure every single Democratic vote is cast. The countdown is on, and it’s on all of us to elect Joe Biden and our Democratic ticket up and down the ballot!

As of Sunday, June 7, there are exactly 149 days — 4 months and 27 days — to November 3, 2020. And remember, Vote By Mail voting for November starts in only 109 days. – FDP Chair Terrie Rizzo

FLORIDA DEMOCRATIC SENIORS ORGANIZING COUNCIL

Please respond to this post if you would like to be considered for a position on this council and/or if you have any questions.

We win Florida, we win the White House!!!

We win SENIORS in Florida, we win Florida & we win the White House!!!
The way to win seniors in Florida is to ORGANIZE! It’s never truly been done before.

The Democratic Senior Caucus of Florida is showing the way, with two official chapters and more to come, under the leadership of Chairperson Yolanda Russell. But, as chapters begin to form in the midst of this pandemic, we need a more immediate tool for the November election– the Florida Democratic Seniors Organizing Council. The DNC has helped set up such a Council in Arizona, and would now like to help do the same in 2020’s single most important state- FLORIDA!!!
This statewide Seniors Council will bring together leading Seniors and near-Seniors in many of Florida’s counties and from every possible diverse background. Presidents of the biggest Democratic clubs, leaders of labor retirees’ groups, famous former statewide Democratic electeds will all be represented.  Activists all over the state will be connected with each other & have a seat at the table with the goal of making sure every potential Democratic voter is registered, will receive & return their own ballot in November and will, even more importantly, help others do the same. The Council will begin meeting on the Internet bi-weekly beginning as soon as it’s set up. Its primary messaging focus will be on the issues that affect Florida Seniors most directly- Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid and prescription drug prices- with an emphasis on how these issues will impact November’s election. The Florida Democratic Party & the DNC will help deliver guest speakers for these virtual meetings. These speakers should include experts on the issues, experts on organizing, and, as the election nears, national figures such as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and presumptive presidential candidate Joe Biden, as well as important Florida electeds. Yolanda Russell will chair the virtual meetings. The Council will of course continue after November, with emphasis shifting to next year’s State Legislature session, and to expediting the formation of more Senior Caucus chapters.

The FLORIDA DEMOCRATIC SENIORS ORGANIZING COUNCIL is an idea whose time has come!
Again, please respond to this email if you believe you would be a good fit for the Council.

Thanks!

What is the DELAY?

Hello Everyone,

Following is a link to an article in the Ledger explaining how Governor DeSantis and the Education Commissioner, Richard Corcoran, are dragging their feet on applying for our federal aid package of $13 billion allocated to Florida thru CARES.

The Department of Education must apply for the $13 billion in federal pandemic relief funds by June 1st.  They have not applied yet.
WHY?…  ITS JUST A FEW DAYS AWAY!

Please reach out to Commissioner Corcoran at www.richardcorcoran.com/education and Governor DeSantis at [email protected].  Please send them both an email requesting they apply for these funds NOW.

Also, please pass this information on to everyone you think may have an interest, especially teachers and parents of school age children here in Florida.

Thank you,

Bea
