The Solivita Democratic Club will sponsor a table at this year’s Community Yard Sale. We are raising funds for the upcoming 2016 election. Proceeds go toward voter registration efforts and helping citizens secure appropriate IDs in order to register to vote. We are in need of items for our table. Please search your garages for items to donate to our cause. Contact Pat O’Beirne at 863-547-4374 or [email protected] to schedule pickup for your donated items.
Did you know that the Supreme Court’s decision allowing corporate dollars to flood political campaigns is based on its interpretation of the 14th Amendment? At the same time, Republican candidates slam the amendment as the basis for denigrating children of immigrants. Chuck Quinn will put the 14th Amendment into historical context and discuss how/why it was enacted. With campaign rhetoric quickly heating up, join us for this timely discussion.
- There will be a special joint Polk and Osceola Delegation meeting held in Bartow on November 9th between 9:30 and 11AM to discuss the subject of Poinciana Incorporation.
- Proponents cite a recent study that concludes Poinciana has the financial capability to support itself as a Florida city. Using data from the United States Census, the Florida Office of Economic and Demographic Research, Department of Economic Opportunity and Florida Department of revenue, they purport that Poinciana not only ranks very favorably when financially compared to other existing cities in Polk and Osceola counties, but ranks near the top in the ability for Poinciana to support itself as a Florida city.
- Opponents argue that incorporation would add another layer of tax, and Solivita should specifically be excluded from any efforts to incorporate Poinciana.
- The 2015 Poinciana study has been submitted to the House Local and Federal Affairs committee and should be evaluated in time for your review prior to the Nov 9th meeting.
Although the Solivita Democratic Club has not taken an official position on the issue, the discussion has a direct effect on all Poinciana residents, and should be attended by everyone with an interest.
